Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited Indonesia and Singapore

The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited Indonesia from 17 November 2011 to 19 November 2011 and Singapore on 19-20 November 2011. The Prime Minister attended the 9th ASEAN-India and East Asia Summits at Bali in Indonesia. He also held bilateral talks with US President Barack Obama, Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao. Manmohan Singh also met Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard and President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on the sidelines of the Summits.

The biggest gathering of Asian countries in Bali, Indonesia sought domination of economic agenda of interest to their region. The Asian leaders met with confidence and new optimism, obviously so as they were meeting at a time when European economies were showing signs of stress. Asian countries expressed confidence that they were growing and even contributing to the recovery of world economy. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stated that Asian countries have stake in early resolution of erosion crisis and should send a message of solidarity to Europe.

In the second leg of his tour, the Prime Minister visited Singapore, where he held bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong. Lee supported India's permanent membership in the UN Security Council. He opined that Singapore looks forward to India playing a more active role in global affairs. Manmohan Singh invited greater investment from Singapore for India's ambitious infrastructure plans. He also unveiled the bust and commemorative marker of the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, at the Asian Civilizations museum.
