150 Years of Archaeological Survey of India

The year 2011 also marks the 150 years of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). ASI would be celebrating 150 years of its existence in December 2011. A number of programmes and events would be held throughout the 150th year, from December 2011 to December 2012. Commencing with the inauguration on 20th December, 2011 by the Prime Minister of India, the events would include a major exhibition, “Rediscovering India 1961-2011”, 5 international conferences, lectures by distinguished and eminent archaeologists, philatelic exhibition, exhibition of old books/documents/newspaper items, regional workshops, cultural programmes and special outreach programmes. On this occasion, Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of the new Head Quarters building of ASI.
