Defence Ministry asks SFIO to probe ‘subletting'

Taking a serious view of allegations of subletting by security agencies and obtaining of benefits by a few former service personnel, the Defence Ministry has asked the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) to probe the case relating to Ex-Servicemen Transport Service Private Limited (EATS).
Transparency
“As part of its drive to ensure transparency in the functioning of Directorate General Resettlement (DGR) office, the Ministry of Defence has initiated a series of measures after an inquiry found substance in the allegations … and decided to request the Ministry of Corporate Affairs to hand over the case to SFIO for further investigation,” Ministry spokesperson Sitanshu Kar said.
Mr. Kar said the decision followed a report submitted by an inquiry committee and action was being initiated against the officers, who flouted the extant norms and guidelines of various schemes and thus were involved in administrative improprieties.
The DGR is an attached office of the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, which is responsible for training and rehabilitation of retiring defence personnel and ex-servicemen through various self-employment schemes. One of these schemes relate to providing security services to Central Public Sector Undertakings through security agencies run by ex-servicemen.
The steps taken by the department towards streamlining processes and procedures involved in the implementation of various schemes / programmes are being strengthened further in the wake of the inquiry report.
Among the services EATS provides is a popular shuttle connecting the Delhi Airport to Connaught Place, heart of Delhi.
