United Nations appointed Former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan Special Envoy to Syria

United Nations (UN) on 23 February 2012, appointed former UN Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan as the joint United Nations-Arab League envoy to Syria. Annan would be assigned with task to set up a dialogue process with all relevant stakeholders of the trouble-torn nation.
Annan will act as the Joint Special Envoy of the UN and the League of Arab States on the Syrian crisis. Syria for last 1 year has been facing a political turmoil. The African nation has suffered severe violence and humanitarian crisis ever since the crisis erupted in the country.
As an special envoy Annan will work out to bring in the solution to all violence and human rights violations, and promoting a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis. He will also strive to search for an inclusive political solution to the ongoing crisis,that could address the democratic aspirations of the people of Syria.
Kofi  Annan, 73, held the position of UN Secretary General for two consecutive terms from 1997 through 2006.
