Ramnath Goenka awards presented

J Gopi Krishnan of 'The Pioneer' and Udayan Mukherjee of CNBC TV 18 were presented Ramnath Goenka Journalist of the Year Award in print and broadcast categories respectively by Vice Prez Hamid Ansari on Monday.

They were among more than 30 journalists awarded in various categories. While receiving the award, Gopi Krishnan, who got the award for his investigative stories on the 2G telecom spectrum case in the print category, said he dedicated the award to his newspaper and its editor.

Mukherjee said the "pitch is too high" these days in TV journalism and added that as the editor of his channel, he tried to maintain a balance while reporting.

Ansari said Ramnath Goenka was an institutional example of good journalism and an exceptional personality of his time.

The awards were instituted by the Indian Express Group in 2006 to recognize the stories that needed to be told while adhering to the highest standards of ethics.

Several other journalists were also given awards under different categories. The Prakash Kardaley Memorial Award for Civic Journalism for Print media went to Tripti Lahiri of Tehelka.

In the category Uncovering India Invisible, Maitreyee Handique of Mint won the award for print journalism while Shikha Trivedy of NDTV won it in the Broadcast category.

Anshuman Tiwari of Dainik Jagran won the same award in Hindi (print) and Hridayesh Joshi of NDTV India in Hindi (broadcast) categories.

For Film & Television Journalism (print), Sonal Kalra of HT City and Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express were joint winners.

For Broadcast category in Film and Television Journalism, Archana Sharma of the Lok Sabha TV won the award.

In the Print Books (non-fiction) category, The Hindus-An Alternative story by Wendy Doniger won the award.

In the Regional Languages (print), V.P. Regeena of Madhyamam Daily and Prakash Noolvi of TV9 in Broadcast bagged the award.

For excelling in Sports Journalism in Print category, G S Vivek of The Indian Express won the prize, while Anjali Doshi of NDTV was selected in the Broadcast category.

In the category Print Reporting from J and K and the Northeast, Teresa Rehman of Tehelka won the award, while it went to Arijit Sen in the Broadcast category.

For best Environmental (print) Rahul Chandrawarkar of DNA and Samanth Subramanian of Mint were honoured. Aarti Dattatray Kulkarni of IBN Lokmat got the prize in the Broadcast category.

The award for Excellent Business and Economic Journalism (print) went to Puja Mehra and Saumya Bhattacharya, both for their work at Business Today.

In the Broadcast category, the award went to Shaili Chopra of ET Now.

Anuj Chopra of The National Newspaper and James Astill of the Economist were given the award in the category Foreign Correspondent Covering India.

In the Investigative Reporting (Print) category Y P Rajesh received the award for The Indian Express Team while Rajat Kain of NDTV won it in the Broadcast category.

Indian Express reporter Muzamil Jaleel won the On-the-spot Reporting award in Print while Preeti Singh of CNN IBN won it in the broadcast category.

In the Commentary and Interpretative writing category, R Sukumar of Team Mint got the award.

In the category Reporting on Politics and Government Maneesh Chibber of The Indian Express and Sujith Nair of Malayala Manorama were joint winners in Print category.

Anubha Bhonsle of CNN IBN got the award in the same category for Broadcast along with Maya Mirchandani of NDTV.

For the Priya Chandrasekhar Memorial Award for Excellence in Editing (Print) Raghav Ohri of The Indian Express was chosen while for the Sanjiv Sinha Memorial Award for Excellence in Editing, Daksh Panwar of The Indian Express got the awards.
