The Textiles Ministry has urged the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), technical textile manufacturers and user organisations to work together to come up with standards for the technical textiles sector, said Ms Rita Menon, Secretary, Textiles Ministry, while inaugurating a national seminar on ‘Role of Standards in Promotion of Technical Textiles' organised jointly by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Textiles and BIS, a statement from the industry chamber said.
Ms Menon said along with the setting of standards and a regulatory framework, a collaborative effort by stakeholders would help in raising the growth rate of the sector to over 20 per cent year-on-year in the 12th Plan period (2012-17) from the current 11 per cent.
